Ever since I was a kid, I’ve was always had an affinity for collages… Whether it was a photo collage taped to my school folder, a scrapbook, mod podging a vase with magazine cut-outs, or more recently, a vision board – I love layering images. So naturally when I came across, Illinois bred, Chad Wys and his collages on the internets, I was instantly drawn to his work. After doing some digging I found out that in addition to making ill collages, Chad also creates sculptures, paintings, and conceptual pieces. I’ve posted a few of my favorites above, but check out his website to see more of his work.
“My artwork is also, at its core, an experimentation in composition, color, and form. Through a variety of mixed media I have chosen as my inspiration a color palette that is at times complimentary and at other times purposfully contradictory, or seemingly destructive. The literal destruction of an object is secondary, in my mind, to the overall effect created by color (dis)harmony and the overall aesthetic-emotional experience of the reclaimed and reinvented object.” – Chad Wys
I think Mr. Wys may have just inspired our next creative challenge. Stay tuned!
