Benoit Paillé is a self-taught French Canadian photographer who produces mesmerizing, multifaceted images. In his photo series entitled “DollarStore”, Paillé transforms dollar store figurines into a commentary on cheap labor, masquerading as bright, fun, eclectic art. Some of the greatest art has stemmed from stepping outside the box, and this is such a fantastic example. The bright contrasting colors and the absurdity of the distorted figurines are captivating.
He says of this project:
“I endeavored to magnify the extreme aesthetic potential of these $1 plastic trinkets […] in order to show the absurdity of their existence, with the hope – perhaps illusive – to generate a reflection capable of transforming consumer attitudes.”
