When I look at Andy Denzler’s work I am reminded of that place between sleep and awake, the place where you still remember dreaming. Or perhaps, the very first moment when you open your eyes to a new day and the light bends with the dark and you step into time. In all of Denzler’s work I see movement. Movement captured like a freeze frame in a moving picture.
Andy Denzler (born in 1965) is a Swiss Artist who lives and works in Zurich. With a background in photography and graphic design, he experimented in his early painting career with different audio and visual equipment that led him to what he calls a “disturbed screen” effect. Soon, themes of photographic & filmic storytelling began to appear. In his paintings there is an essence of a previous moment – something unfolding and a timeline that draws on longer than that one frame.
His works move between photo realism & abstract expressionism, taking you to a place of optical illusion and an open narrative that leaves the story in your hands.
