Alicia Savage is a remarkable self-portrait photographer based in Boston. Her stunning portraits are an exploration of her life, mind and emotions. She draws inspiration from her surroundings and travels and translates it into the gorgeous photographs you see here.
I stumbled upon her work on Flickr and was immediately drawn in by the surreal imagery and mysterious quality of her portraits. In some ways her work reminded me of another favorite photographer of ours here at YM&C; many of her photographs evoke the same feelings and share similar themes with Brooke Shaden’s work. Therefore, I was not at all surprised to read that she has attended Brooke Shaden’s workshops in NYC and drawn inspiration from her photos.
It’s very clear, however, that Alicia has a style all her own. Her mastery of natural light and composition serve to highlight her unique ideas and creativity. The photos speak volumes about her experiences and oftentimes captions and titles are unnecessary.
She says of her drive to create:
“Photography has opened my mind and heart to understand myself and the world beyond what is assumed; to always be inspired by my curiosity and imagination of what is and could be.”
