This is COLORSUPER. And when I look at his work, it makes me so damn HAPPY. How can it not? Bold colors, large mouths, long limbs, little men in fun headdresses, bear cloaks…. When I approached him with my interview request, I was so happy that he obliged. I knew that you all would love this work too.
So, here we go!
Dianna: Batman or Robin? I like to start random. =)
Dianna: Favorite time of day?
Dianna: Hammertime makes me laugh. And also a series of images pops in my head. The dance, and also Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and I am NOT sure why?? Maybe just the way Will Smith dressed? At the moment, do you have a “uniform” so to speak?
COLORSUPER: Nah not really.. If I had more guts I’d dress in a shinny blue suit and pretend I was part of Jagged Edge.
Dianna: Oddest expression you’ve heard recently?
COLORSUPER: None recently – Last one I heard was “Do you smell what the rock is cooking?”
Dianna: What do you think the “rock is cooking??” First thing that pops into your mind.
COLORSUPER: It’s probably something healthy if he’s looking to maintain his viking-like physique.
Dianna: Fill in the blank… “To me art is ______.”
COLORSUPER: for everyone.
Dianna: Fill in the blank… “Without photoshop I _______.”
COLORSUPER: wouldn’t have been able to forge my degree.
Dianna: What does being an artist mean to you, and when did you find your calling? How old were you?
COLORSUPER: Hmm.. I’ve always enjoyed being creative but never really noticed a definitive calling. It’s more like I enjoy drawing/painting/illustrating so kinda makes sense to do that. Since joining Tumblr, my work has been noticed a lot more.. Maybe that counts as my calling?
My earliest artistic memory was drawing limousines at age 5.
Dianna: Why were you drawing limos? I think that is so cute, the image of a five year old you drawing limousines…
COLORSUPER: Lolz. My granddad used to have a bunch of cool cars and limos for hire. At age 5 a car with 6 doors was too much to comprehend.
Dianna: What would a dream collaboration be, in your opinion?
COLOSUPER: A collaboration with Munetoshi Makio would be pretty cool.
Dianna: Do you have a favourite piece of work??
COLORSUPER: I grew up with Swans Reflecting Elephants by Salvador Dali In my parents living room.. It’s still my favourite piece.
Dianna: Salvador Dali is one of my favorites. Did your parents ever explain why they had that piece or was it one of those that was just around, no discussion needed…?
COLORSUPER: I’m not sure. Like you say, it was just around.
Dianna: Name ten artistic inspirations, they don’t have to be artists or works of art.
COLORSUPER: Dali, Murakami, Dalek, Mike Giant, Nigo, Parra, Kaws, Stanley Kubrick, Hayao Miyazaki, Pharrell.. I’ve more, but you asked for ten.. =P
Dianna: What is your favorite “goodbye?” This is going to be the last we hear from you. In this post. =)
COLORSUPER: Peace! =D
