Melody Darlene’s Top Songs of 2012 Author:   ·  December 29th, 2012

What a year it’s been for music! Thanks to the rise in music sharing apps like Spotify, Soundcloud, & Pandora, now more than ever it’s easier to discover AND share new music. I’ve learned about so many amazing new artists this year thanks to the good ol’ internets. Narrowing down my best of 2012 to 5 songs was a seemingly impossible task, sooo I bended the rules a bit and listed a few more (what?). My musical palette can’t be defined, as I’m a lover of sooo many different sounds and genres — my playlist (in NO particular order) reflects just that. Enjoy!

Dianna Agron's You Me & Charlie - Grimes "Oblivion"GRIMES – “Oblivion”: There are so many amazing songs on  Visions, but I chose “Oblivion” b/c as soon as the beat starts, you can’t help but get excited — it’s one of everyone’s favorites!

Dianna Agron's You Me & Charlie - Frank Ocean "Super Rich Kids"FRANK OCEAN – “Super Rich Kids”: Frank Ocean… Where do I even begin? What a year Mr. Ocean has had! Channel Orange is outstanding; every song a story, every song perfect. This, however, is one of my favorites off the album. And yes, that familiar beat you hear is a sample of the Elton John classic, “Benny & The Jets” — soo good!

Dianna Agron's You Me & Charlie - The XX "Chained"THE XX – “Chained”: What’s not to love? This song is everrrything.

Dianna Agron's You Me & Charlie - Teen "Better"TEEN – “Better”: Teen is one of my favorite musical discoveries of 2012! These girls (not actually teens, but 20-something-year-olds from Brooklyn) are such a gem. “I’ll do it better than anybody else.” Yessssss! Love this song.

Dianna Agron's You Me & Charlie - Kendrick Lamar "Poetic Justice"KENDRICK LAMAR – “Poetic Justice”: Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city is a hiphop masterpiece. From beginning to end, this album is a tale of a journey of growing up in Los Angeles (so much so it’s being made into a short film). It was difficult to pick just one, but I’m biased to Janet so “Poetic Justice” is my favorite.

Dianna Agron's You Me & Charlie - Fiona Apple "Valentine"FIONA APPLE – “Valentine”: ”You didn’t receive my valentine? I sent it via pantomime.” Oh Fiona, Fiona, Fiona… you never fail me. Ever. The whole album is great, but THIS track just makes me feel a certain type of way every time. LOVE.

Dianna Agron's You Me & Charlie - Beach House "Other People"BEACH HOUSE – “Other People”: The vibe that this song emits is hypnotic and totally something that I gravitate towards. So chill but so melodic. Yes please.
