Matt Corby is an Australian blues/indie/folk musician, and someone you should be listening to…now. He got his start as runner-up on Australian Idol back in 2007 (he was only 16!) and has since carved out a pretty incredible solo career. After being signed to Ben Lovett’s label, Communion, he began traveling and working with artists including Ian Grimble and Julia Stone, and touring with Elbow. He also became known throughout Australia for playing “Secret Garden” shows in his fans’ backyards. How AMAZING is that? Remind us to put “Matt Corby Secret Garden Show” on our Charlie bucket list.
His fourth EP, “Into the Flame” was released in Australia in November 2011, followed by the release of his single “Made in Stone” in the US this August. We can’t stop listening to both. Corby is one of those musicians who leaves you wondering how so much raw talent can exist in one person. The “stripped down” version of “Brother” [above] is a perfect example of Corby’s brilliance. Can’t wait to see what he does next.
