ESP – “627″ [VIDEO] Author:   ·  October 5th, 2012

Straight out of Los Angeles, ESP releases their video for “627″ and it’s a magical trip! I reached out to director, Chris Coats, to hear more about the creative influence behind the video. His response was just as great as the video!:

“At the time I heard the song, I just happened to be reading Haruki Murakami’s “Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World.” The book deals a lot with the idea that our imagination and subconscious are worlds just as real as “reality” even though they’re not physical, so I envisioned a futuristic world where it’s possible to actually communicate with that alternate reality, and with our alternate “higher” selves, represented by the strange creatures.”

I want to go to that world! Watch the video (above) and if you want more of the sounds of ESP, download their first single, “Serenade” for freeee here!

    If I was
to go into bar or club in the world created by Philip Dick in ‘Do
Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’ – which was the inspiration for Ridley Scotts’ Blade Runner – then I hope
that they would be playing this. Where are all the hover boards?! Well, we’ve
failed to take that technological leap and equally with music there are few
jumps forward. ESP have taken such a step and it is joy to listen to their ambient
    tones.

“627″ is truly an enchanting song and video. I love the director, Chris Coats’ concepts concerning alternate realities, which is creatively depicted in the bands music video. I have to say I love the thought of having a ‘higher self’ which we are able to communicate with! This is my favoured ‘listen’ feature from ym&c because of the originality in the song and the video, it creates an atmospheric sense of adventure and magic to the listener that captures its interesting concepts and artistic skills utilised by the band, director and everyone involved with the production (I really love the ‘strange creatures’, the designs are fantastic.)

Wow, what a song! I regularly check YM&C for new music and I usually find myself falling for, and this is no exception. The song by itself is incredible, but when you add this extraordinary video to it, it is just marvelous. I always found the idea of our subconscious to be a very interesting one and this video embodies completely what I would try to convey for it. Such a spectacular song and can’t wait to check more of their stuff out !

When attempting to expand one’s field of exploration, I find there are few better methods then approaching an art website such as YM&C and choosing to read a post about a topic I would commonly dismiss as arbitrary if not given the time to assess its value. Such posts as this expose the hidden beauty new artists offer, especially those which require further analysis for a meaning, such as this post. Upon first glance, the video appears to be a collection of interesting subjects interposed with a very original song. After a second or third viewing/reading, the video reveals itself to be one layered with meaning and purpose, achieved by entirely unique methods, and furthermore enhancing my interest in this group. These types of posts are what I believe allows a person to expand his or her mind well past the age where imagination becomes limited, hence this post being my favorite.
