YM&C was recently invited to The Gaslamp Killer & Friends show in Los Angeles. The music event not only housed a sick line-up, but also celebrated the release of Gaslamp’s debut LP, Breakthrough. In conjunction with Red Bull Music Academy (who is known to throw some of the best music events), Gaslamp offered his fans free tickets to this epic show… yes freeeee. There was a line wrapped around the block with eager music heads waiting to get in. To ease the wait, Gaslamp came outside and handed out GLK goodies to the concert goers, because he’s just that awesome.

“Originally hailing from sunny San Diego, William Benjamin Bensussen aka The Gaslamp Killer has quickly become a highly sought after beat maestro. Relocating to Los Angeles in 2005, he co-founded the infamous Low End Theory party series together with Daddy Kev and DJ Nobody and became a cohort of Flying Lotus and the Brainfeeder crew. A master of dark, swampy funk, coupled with murderous drums and sounds from beyond. The scourge of gaslamps everywhere is an integral part of the LA beat scene alongside the likes of Daedelus, Samiyam and Flying Lotus, just to name a few.” – RBMA

Joining Gaslamp on stage was J-Rocc, Eprom, Computer Jay, and a special surprise appearance from Flying Lotus! Twas a good evening indeed. Have a listen to some of the set below and check out a few highlights in our gallery above and on our instagram.

He has a peculiar way to mix things, not so much my type I think what he did with the antem is anoying, but what comes next, definitely sounds so much better, much more kind to the ear, invites you to listen to it on your ipod and move your head, enjoy the time while listening. Regarding to the design I think the colors they used on the typo is very legible in contrast with the background, the effect of a human becoming or being an robot makes it more real because of the kind of music he does.

Such interesting music! Not something I would usually listen to but it was a nice change and an eye-opener of the different ways to mix different sounds together. To be honest, somewhere in the early middle, it reminded me of a much better version of Ross’ “Sound” from Friends. It is definitely a unique sound, probably an acquired taste, but great nonetheless! I especially like the last few minutes.
