To me, nothing sings “these are a few of my favorite things” more than the present moment. A lot of times during the holidays instead of buying presents, good friends and I will spend the day together celebrating eachother’s presence. Perhaps, collaborating on an art project (a video, a song, a memory.) This allows me to spend quality time with a friend I might not get to see all the time and we have a festive memory to take away with us and keep forever. Here are some examples of Holiday records & memories I’ve made in the past with other artist friends, that we keep on coming back to celebrate year after year:
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas – Bert & Ernie - My friend KatieRyanArt and I painted the lyrics to this treasured tune all over the wall of her art studio – we knew the next day they were going to be demolishing the building, so we wanted to make sure we celebrated the space properly! We left feeling painty, full of cheer and slightly dangerous – we never forget our Christmas 2008.
I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas - My little sister, @zoeannmusic & I, full out in footed PJ’s sang and played a little ditty of our favorite Xmas tune. Our family always knows when the two of us disappear for a few hours to the confines of the upstairs – that a new video or some sort of art project will soon be unveiled. I can’t wait to see what we make this year!
Morgan & Destiny – My friend, @hitrecordjoe and I made this video together one December eve after finding @sarahdaly42 ‘s beautiful story on HitRECord. We had decided that our night of movie making would also be our special Holiday celebration together – and a festive, painty one it was indeed. We shot this just the two of us & a video camera in my old apartment in Downtown LA. After other artists contributed their amazing talents it later turned into this…
I LOVE YOU, TURKEY - This was a Thanksgiving video, but Holiday-ish all the same, that my friend Celia Rowlson-Hall and I made to celebrate this year! Being two orphans in New York with parades and confetti cannons in our hearts quickly turned a very untraditional Thanksgiving into our most favorite Turkey Day yet! We are about to celebrate this Christmas season with our own version of the Nutcracker that we’ll be putting on in Celia’s living room. Stay tuned… <3
Another one of my favorite things to make for friends during the holidays are Homemade Body Scrubs! Here’s one of my favorites that I found at thebeautydepartment.com:
AND if sweet treats are in the picture for your holiday loves this year, look no further than BabycakesNYC! Whether I order from the store and have yummies shipped, or I make something out of the cookbook – I know these not-so-guilty pleasures are a sure fire way to put a smile and a skip in any of my friends and co-workers days!!
I highly recommend the gluten free brownie cupcakes, or cookie sandwiches! Also their cornbread is to die for and my favorite thing to make here at home <3
HAPPIEST HOLIDAYS to all of You CHARLIE’S – and during these merry days together, lets remember and share:
‘Magick is something WE make’ <3
Much Love and Happy Creations,
Lu
